Send Dopppel a file and ask about it
Tap the + in the message box or drag a file in. Dopppel reads pictures, PDFs, Word files, spreadsheets, PowerPoint slides and plain text — even a photo you take — and answers questions about what is inside.
What it is
You do not have to retype a thing to ask about it. Send the file and ask.
Dopppel reads pictures, PDFs, Word files, spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides — the newer kind, ending in .docx, .xlsx and .pptx — and plain text files. A photo works too: take a picture of a receipt, a page or a sign and ask about it. Then you can ask it anything about what is inside — what it says, what it means, what the numbers add up to.
It keeps the file in mind for the rest of the chat. You can talk about ten other things and then come back to it, and Dopppel still knows what was in it.
How to use it
- 1Tap the + in the message box and pick "Photos and files" — or, on a phone, "Take a photo". You can also drag the file straight in.
- 2Ask your question about it in plain words.
- 3Keep asking. The file stays part of the chat, so you can come back to it later.
- 4Tap the file in the chat any time to open it and read it right there. There is a button to copy the words and a button to download it.
- 5Pasting a big block of text? It turns into a small "Pasted text" card. Tap the card to read it, or tap "Paste as text" to put the words in the message box instead.
Questions
What files can Dopppel read?
Pictures, PDFs, Word files ending in .docx, spreadsheets ending in .xlsx, PowerPoint files ending in .pptx, and plain text files. Older .doc, .xls and .ppt files do not go through, and neither does a Keynote file. A picture can be up to 20 MB, and any other file up to 25 MB. A big photo is made smaller before it is sent, so it goes faster. A photo of a receipt, a page or a sign works too, and Dopppel answers from what it sees.
Can it read my PowerPoint slides?
Yes. It reads the words on every slide and the speaker notes, in the order the slides play, so you can ask what is on slide 3. If a slide is only a picture, Dopppel looks at it and reads the words in the picture, for up to 40 slides. The first question about a deck like that can take a little longer.
What about a very long file?
Dopppel reads the first part of it, and its answer says so. It is worth asking whether it got to the part you mean, because a very long file is cut off at the same place every time.
Can I open the file again, or download it?
Yes to both. Tap the file in the chat to read it right there, and tap the download button to save it. On a phone it fills the screen, and Back takes you to the chat. For Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files you see the words only, so download the file to see how it really looks. On a chat someone shared with a link, files only download.
What happens when I paste a lot of text?
It turns into a small "Pasted text" card, and Dopppel reads all of it. Tap the card to read it. Tap "Paste as text" next to it to put the words in the message box instead, when they fit in one message. In a Gäng, the limit is lower. Then "Make it a doc" turns the words back into a card, until you change them. If the text is too long, it stays a card and says so.
Can Dopppel read my file in a voice call?
Yes, when you are signed in. Dopppel can read the words in files and pasted text sent in that chat. A very long one is read in part. It can not look at pictures or scans in a voice call, so type your question for those. Signed out, a voice call can not read files.
